Question:
Dear expert,
My 7 1/2 months old son refuses the bottle ever since we came back to Shanghai after our Xmas break. He also doesn't want to drink from a cup, sippy cup, etc. I want to stop breastfeeding him, but need to get him back into drinking again before I actually can stop.
He started drinking bottles with breastmilk from when he was 3 weeks old. When he was 9 weeks old, I went back to work. He then drank 2 or 3 bottles with breastmilk when I was at work and I feeded him myself when I was at home (in the mornings and evenings). We never had any trouble with feeding him the bottle. We started with solids when he was 6 months old and he quite likes his fruit and veggies with chicken. However, I'm quite concerned he doesn't eat/drink enough during the day. This is what he gets at the moment:
7:00 am full breast feed
9:00 am a big bowl of different fruits with cereals, biscuit and breastmilk
Noon (12) a big bowl of cereals/porridge with breastmilk
3:00 pm a bowl of veggies with potato/sweet potato/rice, a little bit of chicken and breastmilk
5:30 pm full breast feed (I am trying to change this feed into solids so the 7 pm is a proper full feed)
7:00 pm full breast feed
At the moment I still have enough breastmilk in the freezer for another month. We will change it into Formula once it runs out.
Have you got tips to get my son (back) into drinking bottles or a (sippy) cup? I know breastmilk is the best, but he has had it exclusively for 6 months, he's nearly 8 months and I way 5 kg less than when I got pregnant. It's taking a lot of my energy. I have done it with great pleasure but it's been enough.
Many thanks!
